Harding County has the smallest population of any county in New Mexico with about 810 inhabitants. The population is about 50% Anglo and 50% Hispanic.
Beef cattle ranching is the main industry, and a section of the Kiowa National Grasslands is located in the northern region of the county. Carbon Dioxide wells are another natural resource. Mills Canyon State Park, located 10 miles north of Roy, is a popular camping site.
New Mexico State University has selected a multi-county region in the state to participate in the CREATE BRIDGES program to build up rural economies impacted by COVID-19.
